Job Title: Temporary Development and Communications Contractor (Contractor, 3-Month, Full-Time Preferred)
Organization: Eno River Association
Compensation: $30/hour
About the Role
The Eno River Association is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented contractor to serve as the Temporary Development and Communications Contractor for a 3-month term. Ideally, this position will be full-time, though hours are negotiable. This is a hybrid role requiring both in-office work at our Durham, NC location and remote hours.
The position will collaborate closely with the Interim Director of Philanthropy on key initiatives related to fundraising, donor stewardship, and communications. As the Association undergoes a restructuring process and hires a new Executive Director, there is potential for this role to be extended or transition into a regular full-time position.
The ideal candidate will bring strong organizational skills, creativity, and a commitment to supporting community-driven environmental protection.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising Support
- Collaborate with the Interim Director of Philanthropy in executing the first few months of the Association’s 2025 fundraising plan, particularly focusing on development operations, individual annual fund giving, and donor stewardship.
- Lead the planning and implementation of a donor event to celebrate and grow giving societies, including Sustaining Members, the Wildflower Society, and the Legacy Society.
Donor Stewardship
- Manage donor outreach and stewardship, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records in the constituent relationship management (CRM) database.
- Track the status, communication preferences, and engagement of donors, members, volunteers, partners, and other supporters.
- Execute donation receipting processes aligned with best practices, and regularly update thank-you letters to support donor engagement goals.
- Draft and prepare 2024 tax documentation for donors.
Communications
- Provide project management and create content for the Association’s publications, including the website, social media platforms, and email newsletters. Social media will be supported by an 10-hour/week intern reporting directly to the Interim Director of Philanthropy.
- Ensure these channels are current, engaging, and effective in activating community members as visitors, members, attendees, and friends of the Eno.
- Lead the creation and production of the 2024 Annual Report.
General Standard of Conduct
As part of the Eno River Association team, the contractor is expected to:
- Stay aligned with the Association’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities.
- Work respectfully and effectively with staff, volunteers, and board members.
- Communicate proactively, clearly, and in a timely manner with internal and external stakeholders.
- Execute responsibilities with initiative, focus, and a commitment to excellence.
Job Requirements
- Commitment to viewing all work through an anti-racist and equity lens.
- Demonstrated ability to authentically engage with donors, volunteers, and community members.
- Work experience in development, sales, marketing, or a related field.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while being self-directed and independent.
- Proficiency with database management, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Drive.
- Willingness and ability to learn job-specific tools such as DonorPerfect, Constant Contact, and Canva.
- A sense of humor and a passion for environmental protection.
Contract Details
- Duration: 3 months (full-time preferred; hours negotiable).
- Compensation: $30/hour.
- Location: Hybrid role with a mix of on-site work in Durham, NC, and remote work.
- Start Date: Ideal start date is January 2, 2025.
