Job Title: Summer Communications Intern
Organization: Eno River Association
Hours: 10 – 15 hours per week
Compensation: stipend not available (students are encouraged to explore funding through their academic institution)
Duration: May 15 to August 15 (dates flexible, with potential for extension to a paid fall semester internship)
Location: Durham, NC. Hybrid. Must be able to work onsite at the Festival for the Eno, July 4-5, 2025.
About Us:
The Eno River Association is dedicated to preserving and protecting the nature, culture, and history of the Eno River basin. We engage the community through environmental education, stewardship, and advocacy to ensure a healthy and vibrant river for future generations.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and creative Communications Intern to join our team. This internship provides a unique opportunity for someone passionate about environmental conservation to take ownership of a project, build professional skills, and gain mentorship through hands-on experience in the communications field. The intern will support our communications efforts by assisting with events communications, social media content creation, and communications projects of interest. Producing and distributing creative, timely, and informative communications for the 2025 Festival for the Eno will be a significant focus of the summer internship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Content Creation: Develop written content for newsletters, blog posts, press releases, and other communications materials.
- Social Media: Write and schedule posts for our social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.), and capture engaging photos to accompany posts.
- Events: Attend the 2025 Festival for the Eno (July 4-5) to provide on-the-ground event and communications support.
- Website Management: Update and maintain the Eno River Association’s website, ensuring content is current, accurate, and visually appealing.
- Email Marketing: Assist the Development & Communications Contractor in creating and distributing email blasts to engage our community and promote upcoming events, programs, and initiatives.
- Photography: Take high-quality photos at events and in the field to support our visual storytelling efforts.
- Communications Projects: Assist with various communications and marketing projects as needed, including graphic design, video editing, developing media outreach strategies, and/or managing a small team of volunteers.
Qualifications:
- A degree (or currently pursuing one) in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, Environmental Studies, Conservation, or a related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in social media platforms and tools (e.g., Meta Business Suite).
- Basic knowledge of website content management systems (e.g., WordPress).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Photography skills and experience with photo editing software are a plus.
- Passion for environmental conservation and community engagement.
